351M to 460 Oil Pan

Did a search, must have been using bad search words, so I never found a good answer. I'm swapping a 460 into a 78 F150 4x4. I know I need a rear sump, but one of the only pans I could find was $300 and chrome. I'd prefer to get something cheaper, OE style that I can just get ordered in from a parts store, not from L&l. I heard econolines or 83+ trucks have the right oil pan. None of the parts shop could positively ID it as a rear sump for me.

Check the wreckers. They should let you look some over and return it if it doesn't fit. Even if you don't buy used you can see which truck has the right one.

If you still want to put the 460 into the F150 4X4 get yourself a pan from a '79 van that had a 460.. I don't remember the part # but I bought a new one when I put a 460 into a '79 Bronco.. You can get monts from L&L or if you take your time you can make your own from like I did from the flat 390 motor mount and a 3/8" plate.. When I got through the 460 sat in the same holes the the 351M did.. . I do remember it took me 5 days to come with the home made mount, but the engine sat level and the installation looked good.. Good Luck

Fordmotorsports has a rear sump pan, dip stick and tube, long oil pump pick up tube, and the main bearing cap bolt with the stud on the end of it to support the longer pick up available together as a kit for $160.-$180. depending on where you buy from. Jegs sells these in their Mustang section.

I used one with my 460 swap in my 82 F-250 4x4. It is an OEM replacement also.

If you go the van route which will work, be sure to grab the exhaust manifolds too. These will fit between the frame rails fine.
