Motorcraft Powerstroke 15w40 oil

Hello Everyone:
I am new to this forum/website. I must say it is a great place to learn about Powerstroke diesels. I recently purchased a 2002 F350 7.3 Powerstroke 4x4 Supercab a/t with 26000 miles on it. I am really pleased with the truck, and really like driving it. I was planning on continuing to use the Motorcraft FL1995 oil filter, and the Powerstroke diesel 15w40 oil. Is the Powerstroke oil a good choice, considering I want to stay with a dino oil. I drive a combination of city / highway each day about 20 miles to and from work as well as around town driving. Should I change the oil every 5000 miles or less than 5000 miles? At what temp should I use the Diesel Klean anti-gel in the white bottle AND WHAT RATIO WITH THE 29 GALLON FUEL TANK? sORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS, i JUST WANT THE OPINION OF EXPERIENCED DIESEL OWNERS.
Thanks again

Bluemonster,

Welcome to the forum! First the oil you are using is fine as long as it is rated for PSD. I personally change my oil every 3000 miles religiously. I know that others might disagree but I live in AZ and it gets dusty here. I don't want to waste my truck over a couple dollars in oil. I also tow a fifth wheel from time to time and when you tow a big amount of weight around its a good idea to stay on top of it. But that is my opinion. As for the DK question I only use the white bottle cause it does not get cold enough here for the anti gelling grey bottle. But when I add mine I figure it on a 30 gallon tank just to make the numbers easier. Then I pre filla smaller bottle with the right amount as to not spill from the bigger bottle onto my truck and or me!

Thanks for the feedback. I must have purchased the wrong bottle( I purchased the white bottle). I can return it, as it is not opened yet. So the gray bottle is the anti-gel, I need that I guess before next winter. The Motorcraft Powerstroke oil is specifically for the Powerstroke diesel engine.
Thanks again

Bluemonster,

Keep the white bottle and use it too. It will clean out you injectors and get you better fuel economy and easier start ups also help it idle better! Read the sticky full additive in this forum for more opinions on the subject.

No engine related mods yet. I would like to get the gauge that allows turbo temp monitoring and an AIC down the road. After normal driving how long should I let the engine idle before shutting it down?
Thanks

Spend the money get the A-post gauges pyrometer, turbo boost, and trans temp. Get these before you do any other mods. Only after hard driving or heavy towing do you need to let it idle down. That should last about 7-10 minutes per the ford manual.

The truck already has the factory trans temp gauge. I do plan on getting the other gauges. Where is a good place to get these gauges installed?
Thanks

Hey I know it has a tranny gauge on it, but I would get one with the number values on it. your tranny runs best between 150-200 degrees oil begins to break down at 240 degrees. Do not trust the hot/cold gauge in your truck. Better to just do it all at one time save the time effort and money. Plus it looks better with all three. Where abouts are you? I can tell you where in AZ but my advice is put down where you live someone will chime in with the best places. But look to the super shops around, Like lopers, simpson tool box, 4 wheelers, Off road. These types of places. And then ask to see if they have a book on the jobs they have done already with pictures!!

I have used Motorcraft 15W40 since day one. I also use Motorcraft in my Gassers and have always had perfect Test results from Blackstone Labs.
I will continue to use it and I run 5000 Miles and The annalisis Says I can run Farther as the Oil is still in Great shape at 5000 miles. Changing at 3000 is a waste Since you have 15 quarts instead of 5 like a gas engine thats rated for 3000 miles.

The Ford oil is fine. You can also use others like Chevron Delo 400 and Shell Rotella T. They are available in gallons and quarts. I change my oil every 4000 miles and use the FL-1995.

The White bottle is the anti-gel/cleaner/lube with +4 Cetane. I was told to use it at 20 degrees F. The Silver/Grey bottle is just a more concentrated lube/cleaner with +6 Cetane. I've used both and typically use 8 Ounces per fill up, running it for two consecutive tanks. (16 ounces for 50 gallons.... 29 is about half of 50, so 8 oz.)

I worked as a service adviser at a ford commercial service center, i saw an amazing difference in trucks serviced at 3k vs. 5k. I recommend the 3k. also, the air box filter housing is a piece of garbage, we replaced more engines for dusting because the air box was cracked than all other complaints combined. you will never see the crack, it will crack underneath. Ford has an updated air box, uses a filter simular to the filter used on abrams tanks. costs about $280 for the kit but is worth every penny.

Will ford or some dealerships honor the Tymar intake??
