How to tell a 216 fm 235 in '50 Chevy Truck

I have the manual, have looked for the engine s/n and have heard only the 216 was used in the 1/2 ton...
Still, I don't know if this is the orig motor or not.
How can I tell? What distinguishing characteristics are there? Thanks!
