1998 F-150 Tach Install

Fellas--I just bought a Sunpro tach for my truck. Having trouble figuring out how to wire it in. The truck has a coil pack (no distributor) with several wires coming out out of it, not sure what's what. The directions are very vague and the guys at Auto Zone were no help. If anyone can tell me which wire to hook this thing up to I'd really appreciate it. I live in Del Rio, Tx and there isn't much of an option for help. Thanks a bunch

-Max

Hi Max,
Take a look at http://hp.autometer.com/techtips/faq...nd_beyond.html
. The PCM connector that they are talking about is in behind the battery. You'll have to remove the battery to get at it.

I made it even easier, and bought a cluster with a tach for my year, and just plugged it in, glad I did, because I then discovered the powerband of the V-6!!! No red line, but the new set of guages are nice!

Gangrene, Where did you get the cluster, and how much did it cost? Thanks

not going to believe it, but on Ebay.... took alot of searching but I found it. it was no more than the cost of a regular monster tach. I think I paid 45 for the cluster and 20 for shipping. It was at my door in 2 freakin days, crammed that sucker in a cannon and fired it to my door. It was simple getting it out(once I got past the headlight switch...thats a trick in itself) and with all of the temp and fuel clustered together, it made it brighter, looks cool. I can read the Tach no problem, and there is no red line.BUT I dont think I need to be at 6 grand anyways. It was definately worth every penny spent and I had to drill no holes. My mileage is 23,000 miles less (no guantaree on what the mileage will be on them) so I just wrote the old and new in my manual for references. Would be a good time while the guages are out to upgrade to some Platinum or glo guages..... I didn't, I was just excited to have a tach!!

Here's the problem with that: The one way the factory warranty will be voided is to 'tamper' with the odometer. This would more than likely constitute tampering, and thus would probably void the warranty. Although, it would be nice to have a tach!

did u look into this??? if so than that sucks. I could care less about the limited warranty I have. It sure beats drilling holes in my truck, and testing wire after wire(or using a diagram) for the tach.

On the warranty paperwork for every car I've owned, it mentioned that the warranty will not be voided by the installation of aftermarket accessories. If the aftermarket accessory caused the problem, than the warranty would not cover it.

HOWEVER.....

If the vehicle is declared a total loss or there is ANY evidence of odometer tampering, the warranty is voided completely.
