Check Engine light with vibration

Started last week, a slight vibration at idle and the check engine light came on(900mi). I took it in and they said a coil wasn't pushed on all the way. They reinstalled the coil and away I went. A day later I felt a engine vibration at 60mph and the checkengine light came on. I rolled into the dealer ship and they said I was the coil and they will order one in and have the coil and plug (which looks cool) changed. They reset the the computer and away I went. The truck ran fine from the time they reset the computer till 4 days after they change the coil(a total of 6 days). Yesterday the check engine light came on and It was missing all the way up the rpm range. I've only had the check engine light never the limp-mode light. I have a Reg cab 2wd with a 5.4. Any one have an opinion? The service tech said "this is a new one for him, its the same code has before, and he would have to call Ford.(I don't know which code, but it has somthing to do with the ignition system, sorry)

Another victim of the hopeless limp mode problem. Bummer.

I've heard everything from no wrench light coming on, to just the check engine light, to neither, or both. The vibration you feel when that happens is the engine shutting down cylinders. Sometimes it's mild, other times you can hardly drive it.

Please let us know what your dealer found...and how they fixed it.

Their going to replace the computer. The mechanic called Ford and they told him to ignore the fault codes and replace the computer. They may have a fix, I'll Find out shortly.

Keep us posted Bronc. That solution sounds better than continual re-flashes.

Got truck back yesterday. They Changed the PCM (computer), and it idles alot smoother now, cant feel the engine sitting in the driveway. Drove it for a while yesterday with out a problem and it was pretty chilly out when I started it this morning. No engine light. I usually got the light on the way to work when the engine was colder. Here's the Shop write up.

CK ENGINE LITE ON
WDS SETUP KOEO P1111 KOEC P0356 RAN OASIS CONT.
HOTLINE REP. #4DBIB019 516-311-781 JEFF HAD ME VERIFY PWR.
AND GND. FROM COIL TO PCM CK. PRIMARY IGN CIRCUIT AND REPL.
PCM TRANSFER VIDD BLK. AND REPROGRAM PCM W/NETWORK DATA UP-
GRADE TEST DRIVE Q.C. 210

When I was talking to the mechanic he said there is a new program out to help with the throttle control problem. My truck didn't have that problem but the new software has it.
I hope this fixes it. I'll repost if any thing new happens.
oh ya

That's great!!

I'm glad they changed out the $$$ computer instead of "Easter Egging" around with less expensive, but possible components.. I hope this is the fix!!

Glad to hear it. Keep us posted either way Bronc.

I had the PCM update, but no new PCM. After the upgrade my problem still shows its ugly face from time to time. I must be getting the bad end of that "Easter Egging" thing.

I've driven about 500 miles since the PCM change and no problems.
