Ford Sound Systems vs. AC Delco
I'm looking for opinions on Ford sound systems versus AC Delco systems, which are carried by most Chevys. Does anyone feel that the Delco systems are better than the Ford's. Also, does anyone know who makes the Ford systems? I drive a Chevy Suburban at work, and I am impressed with the sound. My Escape's sound system I feel sounds good as well, but in different ways. Any thoughts?

I think that the recievers are probably pretty good whether they are Ford or Delco. However, I have noticed that the sound systems in Chevy vehicles generally seem to sound better than Fords. This has quite a bit to do with the speakers. When comparing my sister's Sable to my mom's Lumina, the Sable seems downright weak, while the Lumina has very good bass output. I do not think that Ford uses junky speakers, they just do not use the right size. My pickup's bass output is terrible, although it helped some when I put the CD player in it.

I have always thought GM had better radios than ford when comparing the plain jane stuff. I have premium sound in my crown vic and it is only a little better than a chevy malibu's standard equipment. The Mach 460 is pretty cool. I usually upgrade the stereo whenever I buy a car but my 2000 F-150 came with a CD player and it is loud enough for me. It will stay stock.

The only factory system that's worth a crap is the Mach1000 system available on the Ford Mustang. That thing is sweet. All the others I've heard are very weak and distort easily at high volume.
I changed my speakers to 3-way Kenwoods in the front and 2-way Kenwoods in the rear, and it was worse than it was from the factory! So I went ahead and installed a Kenwood head unit, Kenwood amp, and Kenwood sub in the rear....now it sounds like a theatre inside. But the point is...you can't expect your OEM head unit to push aftermarket speakers...it will sound horrible that way. Either change it ALL, or leave it all factory.

I changed out the mach360 sound system in my 94 mustang, and rewired the whole thing with a kenwood eXcelon KDC-X659 head unit , diamond audio speakers(with cross-overs for midrange and highs for tweeters
) in the front controlled by a one kenwood eXcelon amp. I have a kenwood eXcelon in the rear controlled by an another kenwood eXcelon amp. Then I have a bazooka tube subwoofer in the trunk With a 12' eXcelon sub woofer in it, controlled by another separate eXcelon amp. Sound like I'm at a rock concert. Dude
