Toreador_Diesel has a good reputation on FTE. Toreador_Diesel has a good reputation on FTE.
Why would Ford do this though? Isn't that supposed to smother an engine fire?

I think it mostly is a noise barrier. Ford deleted it to save some money. My truck doesn't have it - no glove box light, either.

It was added to cars first to stop hood pain blistering then when trucks started to get packaged so tight they needed it there as well. With new paints and motor covers and such I am guessing that is no longer an issue?

You probably don't have a glove box light either.

Don't worry about it. My glovebox is too small for my boxing gloves!

I just installed the Under Hood Blanket and weather strip in my 2004. It was a 5 min. job.

Here are the part numbers below.

1 - 3C3Z*16738*BD INS-HOD SN $102.00 HOOD BLANKET
7 - *N808842*S PIN 6.35MM $ 1.77 PLASTIC RIVETS / HOLD DOWNS,SEVEN
1 - F81Z*16A238*BB SEAL ASSY- $ 35.44 BACK WEATHER STRIP / HOLDER
1 - F81Z*16A238*AA SE ASY-HOD $ 35.81 FRONT WEATHER STRIP / HOLDER

I got mine at dealer cost, which is about a 1/3 off the prices above.

under hood blanket deleted

I have a 2004 E-450 V10 Econoline chassised motorhome and the there is no blanket under the hood. Mabey because the hood is fiberglass, the blanket is not needed now or mabey to save weight and dollars. V10 power is great with 12,200 pds....much better than the 460.
