Where would the engine number be? im tryin to figuer out how much horsepower it dishes out stock, because ive heard 390s come stock with either, 330hp, 300hp, 280hp and so on.............

find the casting #'s on the passenger side front of the block, does the 390 have a 2 or 4 barrel carb.

should be something like C8AE, D3TE, along that line somewhere they should be located on the passenger side front of the block below the head a little bit.

If it is a 4bbl then it is a 390 unless someone dropped a 4bbl manifold on something else. If it is a 2bbl it could be either a 360 or 390. Since it isn't the original engine you will have to measure the stroke to find out. Casting number rarely offer any help but it is still nice to know what casting you have.

Thumbs up

Those HP ratings sound like there from 390 powered cars!! Not trucks...

Someone help me here..I believe the trucks had a milder cam in the and lower compression? I think thats how it goes... Russ

You are correct. I think the highest HP rating for the 390 in a truck was 255HP. They had much lower compression. The car cams varied but the smaller ones were pretty close or equal to the truck cams I beleive. The 335HP 390's cam was a bit bigger but was by no means huge. The Crane 343801 was bigger than any cam put in the 390s or 428s for that matter.

I wonder the HP is on my 390 stocker 70F250 it did come according to the VIN

with a 2v..But that changed real qiuck..So the stocker has a 750 holley the old street master intake and a set of long tubes (hedmans) But soon!! Well ..12 to 18 mo.

With the new motor?? I was thinking on the roller CRN 521..but I will have to see
what all happened to Greg?? I think 607 lift might have been to much!!

Sorry for the long post.... Russ
