2001 F250 5.4L Oil Leak in valley of engine can not find source

120K miles on a well maintained engine. I have changed oil every 5k will Mobile 1 oil. I found 2 pints of oil in the valley of the engine. We have taken the intake off to get a better look. It does not seem to be coming from the head gasket because it is clean all the way around. The shop has dusted the engine looking for cracks and none were found. Any one have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

My 5.4L has a oil leak in the valley also. I found it is the oil line that runs under the intake. The fitting is leaking out of the banjo bolt located under the alternator. If you remove the alternator and use a 10mm offset wrench or socket and replace the brass washers that should stop the leak.

SD3501 - Are you sure that was the source of the oil leak? I asked about this at my local stealership and they say there is no oil line under the intake, only a coolant line and the knock sensor. The mechanics there said an oil leak in this area is likely the infamous head gasket problem.

i have the same leak since 34000 miles..i was trying to find a print of the engine to see what all is in the valley but cannot find one..from using inspection mirrors and such it does not seem to be a head gasket on mine..anyone positive if there is an oil line in that valley?

I just tore down my 99 f 150 with 5.4 found two burt intake valves #2&3 there is no oil line below the intake manifold. However I notice that the plastic portion of intake (the lower manifold) contained a couple of tablespoons of oil which I atribute to condensed vapor from the PCV input. I also noticed that this plastic portion had a dimple where it touches the heater hose below it and am given the impression that if it wore through or cracked here that accumilated oil pooling in the lower intake would drip into the valley below. Just a thought.
