95 water pump in 97?

Boy, my water pump blew today in my 1997 psd. i went to the parts store and found out that a 95 water pump is half the price of a 97. inspecting both water pumps and noting the differences i'm thinking they would work. i could'nt see why not. anybody ever do this? tomorrow i only have time to do the change once. i changed them before so its easy now, wish i had time to try.

I can't tell you if it is right or wrong but i have done it. i have 95 PSD and i dusted my engine basically, so i found a used 97 PSD engine with about 20,000 miles on it and went back into my 95 PSD and had to use my waterpump off of my 95 PSD. i had one problem with one bolt on the top of it, but it hasn't leaked with about 10,000 miles on it and still get about 18 mpg with it. Most of my driveing is done on dirt roads too.

Thats it! i'm bringing this one back and swapping it for the 95! It makes me so mad when they do this. the reason the price is double is because it has a lifetime warranty, basically you pay for 2 water pumps but get one. if it breaks you can have your other one. Thanks ralstonro, glad to hear from you.

I took it into Wal-Mart and had the oil changed in it, They checked my air filter and didn't get one of those bolts tight on the stock air filter, then i put about 4500 miles on it in about 4 days, then i had some nice white smoke comeing out of my tale pipe.

Oh' man this 97 i have has eaten its fair share of dust. after i bought it i checked the air filter and found improper installatiion as well. the intake had a mud like substance built up, from dust sticking to the oil film. plus some larger objects like bug parts. i wonder what trouble i might get from that? Today i put the 95 water pump in the 97 truck, with minor retrofit to the thermostat and a hose connection...i droveit and so far alls well.
