Door lock..First question...

So, here i go.. Just bought this 56 f-100, and I notice that on the passenger door there is a place to put a key to unlock the door, about 6 inches down from the handle there is a seperate place with a spring loaded cover and all, BUT on the drivers side door there is NO PLACE AT ALL to put a key in? Whats missing on the drivers door? How am I supposed to get in the truck?

Thats just what they did in the good ole days. It was to keep you from standing out in traffic to get into your truck. They sell lock kits that have a template you can cut out if you need to have a drivers side lock as well.

I don't know if you're aware of how to lock and unlock the driver door. To lock it, push the inside door handle forward, then exit the passenger door. To unlock it, enter in passenger door and pull driver door handle in the normal fashion to open the door. If you will be needing to repalce this door anyway, then look for one from a custom cab model. They had the key lock on both doors. That will save you the trouble of cutting a hole and installing a lock on that side. Good luck, John

So, no kidding.. There is not a door lock (key slot) on the drivers door? I thought you guys were messing with the new guy! I have a bit to learn, but I will love every minute of it!

That's right and wait until you find out about the external emergency brake lever. John

I think you got the drivers door key lock when you bought the custom cab option in 1956.

The external e-brake lever, is that near the muffler bearing or more towards the hubcap seal?

Thanx for the info on the lock, hear I was thinking the previous owner shaved it.

Never noticed

I never noticed that there was no key hole on the drivers side before I knew how the doors locked and asumed that there was a key hole on both sides. Luckily I have an extra set of doors in the gararge that are from a custom cab.
