Yea and what a lot of those poser's don't realize is that their car's weigh a heck of a lot less than our pickups do and then they are ignorant (or uneducated about this) and don't realize that it takes a lot more power to move something that weighs more. I say tell him you will probably get me, (then you don't lool like an idiot if you lose) and race him. If you beat him then you don't have to say anything and can just laugh at him and if you lose you can say my pickup weighs however many pounds and your car weighs whatever it weighs and say (I told you that you would probably get me but mine sounds way better and can pull more than a radio-flyer wagon.

he says he will take off faster than i can, i cant seem to get it through his head that isnt going to happen, i think i can take him in the 1/8 close in the 1/4 and the 1/2 im done for, these old trucks dont seem to have much aerodynamics, does it ever help by haveing the tail gate down when raceing, ive heard of people towing will put a tailgate on that lets air flow through it so i figure this would be the same for raceing.

Well with 375 horses from a rolling start you should be able to whoop him up and down, unless he is modded up.
My issue from a stop would be traction, with 4.11's and street tires wouldnt you be sendin up smoke signals the thing with ricers is the lack of tourqe they can rev the poop out of there little fart can, bee hive buzzin to the moon and leave the line with hardly a fart comin from the tires.
Tourqe is our friend, but we must master the traction get em boy.

Yeah let your tail gate down and keep your windows up {yeah that actually helps lol} I think you can get him in the 1/8 pretty easy , I watch them race down here at Farmington. They run 10 + a few break into the 9's if modded, but it also helps to have an auto in the 1/8. As far as traction goes if your on street tires skip the burnout and stay in the groove , well if ya take it to the strip , if not just roll on the street . Just my .02

ill see if i can get some sticky tires, but with a locking rearend do you think its going to still be spinning that much from a dead stop, his fart machine is pure stock with a 2.0 rubber band under the hood, i wish my truck was done now so i could race him, but unfortunatly its going to be a month.

Not too many years back there was a story in Hot Rod about a neon that ran 10s or 11s in the 1320. It was heavily turbocharged. Some of these guys can have 500+ hp.
I'm not saying your competitor is that good. The weight makes the difference in the quarter, though. You may well have tons more hp and torque, but he's probably less than half your weight.
Just being realistic.
Now, if I could just get a tube frame and carbon-fiber body for my F250, I'll be in good shape. ;-)

Yeah the 5 speeds in the 1/8 don't do to hot , you can tell every time they shift they bogg down. I know this is a lil diff but my friend has a 66 fairlane with a built 351W and a 4.11 posi and auto and he spun all the way down the track on street tires running in the 9's but once he hooked up a lil better he got into the 8's but he was still spinng, so if u can hook up its your race if you cant its probably still your race , cuz your weight may help out. Hehe o yah he beat a newer model SS camaro spinning LOL , had to throw that in there

this guy "kid" is only 17, and just bought the car, i dont even know him hes a new comer in my town, but he stopped at my shop becuase he saw me working on my truck outside, the car is all stock with the exception of a fart can and park bench on the the trunk, he seems to talk the talk but we'll see if he can walk the walk. ive got a lot of work to do on my truck and his challenge has sparked me to go faster and put a few more ideas into my head, im trying to think what other external mods i can do, i havnt bought a dizzy set up yet or coil, and i havnt got a locker for the rear yet, im still depateing on what to go with.

i know those fairlanes were some really fast cars, proably among fords best cars ever made. fordman i dont know if i can make it even next year proably closer to the next year after that my truck is in prettey bad condtion and is barely road worthy, however i will try ti get it raceworthy by that time im on a very limited budget so progress is slow. if you see an ugly yellow dented stepside 66 ford with a busted windshield its me.
