HP & TQ Curve for Stock V-10

Well, I've just posted the rear wheel HP and TQ curve for my F-250 SD V-10. The truck is still very new, and tight, but the curves can be found at the following links:
<a href="http://ic.net/~wawii/Dyno/9-99_HP.jpg">http://ic.net/~wawii/Dyno/9-99_HP.jpg</a>
<a href="http://ic.net/~wawii/Dyno/9-99_TQ.jpg">http://ic.net/~wawii/Dyno/9-99_TQ.jpg</a>
Since it's an auto and the dyno shop couldn't keep it from down shifting so he made runs in both 2nd and 3rd gears.

In the 2nd gear runs the cureves are complete up to the rev limiter, but in the 3rd gear runs the speed limiter kicked in and an accurate HP measurement could not be made. In 2nd gear the cureves are lower do to greater drive train loss.

3rd gear Peek HP was 237 @ 3,800 PRM and peek TQ was 334 @ 3,200 PRM, but the HP measurement was when the speed limiter kicked in and the real HP peek should be at ~4,200 RPM. I'd estimate around 246 HP at that RPM based on the curves.

Not to bad for stock rear wheel measurements. Next comes K&N, Banks, and who knows what.

HP & TQ Curve for Stock V-10

In regards to HP and TQ. I have read two different specs for this motor and been told by the dealer where I ordered my 2000 F350 Dually w/ gas V10 that the HP is 310, I forget what the torque was. But I have read both, 275 and 310.
Is there two V-10's out there?

Thanks

Chip,

The 1999 V-10's were rated at 275 hp and 400 #'s of Tourque.

Ford in an effort to not continue to play catch-up with Dodge and GM passed there 300 hp rating and "tweeked/tuned" the V-10 for 2000 to 310 hp and 425 #'s of Tourque.

As Dodge delivers the 2001's in just over a year I would expect Ford to have to re-tweek the V-10's again. you know on a hp per cubic inch, the non-US manufactures are doing a far better job than Ford, Dodge or GM.

HP & TQ Curve for Stock V-10

Will,

Thanks for the info.

I guess my next question would be, what else can I do to that truck myself to tweak/tune it to squeez even more HP?

Headers? CAT/Back? SuperChip? All of the above?

I have started to look around but I am not sure what would be the best config.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(I can't wait until I get my new F-350, these are such cool trucks!)

Chip,

Yep, do them all. Banks makes headers and cat-back kits. Superchips makes a chip. If I remember right, the Banks kit, headers, K&K filter and cat-back, adds 45 hp and 60 ft lbs Tq at the rear wheels. The Superchip adds 29 hp and 46 ft lbs Tq. The Banks is about $1500 and the chip is about $395.

Thanks, V10 Man.

What about Borla? I have seen a lot of press about them, looks nice AND expensive.

Has anybody done these kinds of mods?

With what kind of results?

I have also read with interest that a lot of people are having trouble with resonance/vibration. Would one of these cat/back systems help? Are these problems fixed for 2000 model trucks?

I am waiting for a 2000 F350 CC Dually w/V10 gas and am wondering if I am going to have to take it in for a bunch of TSB's.

HP & TQ Curve for Stock V-10

I just purchased an F250 SD 4x4 with the V-10 and 3.73 rear with the automatic. I have spent the last month looking into possible upgrades. The biggest problem is that the V-10 is so new that few companies are making mods for it. Jet and Superchip each have a chip for it. Bates has 2 kits for it ( one starts at the headers, the other is from the cat back and both tweak the intake side ). Borla and Gibson each have a cat-back solution. Only Paxton presently has a full supercharger kit for the V-10. Just about everyone seems to add a K&N filter from day 1. Ford definitely changed the intakes this year to get the HP rating to 300 primarily to help boost sales of the new Excursion. The end results of my investigation so far is that by adding the Bates Powerpack and the Paxton supercharger you should see around 450HP and more than 600 foot pounds of torque. Of course if you do this, you might want to talk to Art Carr about keeping your drivetrain in one piece...
