Starter stopped

Go figure! I plowed all winter and the trucks been parked most of March, I start it up and move it to take the plow off and that goes well. Back it up and park it. !0 mins later go to start it and click click....Starter sh t the bed.
The braided wire disolved from the brushes to the solenoid. I've never seen a starter as neat as this one built really well...I'm off to the parts place for a brush kit and a solenoid on Monday...It coulda broke when I needed it...

Thats interesting ! never had a newer one apart . but you can get a brush kit for it? from who ?
I'd do a load test on the armature to see if something is breaking down for a high resistance ,to cause the braided wire to burnup.

well I got the goodies and put it all back together and back on the truck and it works great...My guy said that they just released the brush assembly for this starter. B4 that you had to buy a new starter or replace individual brushes....

99 ,you say corrosion ! how did moisture get into the brush area? or was it condensation forming internal because of heat/cold cycles.must be!
I answered my own ? duh!

Are these available at a napa or some other supplier other than a rebuilder?

Its the braid thats exposed to the outside between the starter and the solenoid...No you can't get the parts anywhere except rebuilders. Maybe in another year or two they are too new. Salt etc on the braid causes them to go quick.
