Replace my cast iron SCJ intake with an aluminum one?

I have a 429SCJ block/Heads/Intake with a 460 crank. I would really like to save some weight by putting on an aluminum dual plane intake, but I want it to have the same size ports as the original. Who makes an intake?

I emailed Edelbrock's tech department about this and they said:
Not sure. Our Performer RPM intake (Part number 7166) will definitely work with a CJ intake, but mentions nothing about a SCJ intake. If it helps, the port exit dimensions are 1.76” x 2.06”. That way you can match it up to your intake and see if we’re close.

Are those the dimensions of the ports on my SCJ heads?

Thanks!
Ben

Weiand makes two Stealth intakes. One is for the regular "small" port heads. The other is specifically for the CJ/SCJ heads. It is by far the best dual plane intake out there for SCJ's, in both torque AND hp.

The Performer RPM is for High Rpm's use.
The *Performer* will handle a street engine no problem

The performer may handle a street engine, but the Stealth will outdo the performer or Performer RPM in BOTH hp AND torque. There is no reason, that I see, why a person would go with the performer or even the performer RPM. The stealth is simply a better intake. Especially in a 460 or bigger engine which will have higher volume air requirements.

From what I've read on other sites, the Performer RPM and the Stealth are pretty evenly matched as far as flow and power numbers. The Performer, IMO, is just a lighter (aluminum)version of a stock iron intake. The Performer RPM is made to be used in applications from 1500-6500 rpm, the Performer from idle-5000 and the Stealth from idle-6500 rpm.

Does anybody know what the weight difference is between the stock 460 and the performer manifolds? I know the stock one is heavy and I have to go into traction eveytime I remove it.

I heard Edelbrock brought out an air gap for the 460 which is supposed to rival the stealth. But I couldn't find it on their website.

Yes you can order the Air-Gap from Jegs. I feel this will out perform the stealth at the end of the day but until we see real numbers who knows. I plan to have one soon on my engine. It also comes with either standard or CJ/SCJ ports.

Opps mistake on my part. The Air-Gap works with stand and CJ heads. For the SCJ heads you are going to need to run the stealth or a victor manifold. Oh, the Air-Gap is list on the Edelbrock site now.

tmyers, what heads where on a "CJ"? I am under the illusion that the CJ and SCJ are the same dang heads on a 429...the good ol' DOOE-R.

I guess I was asleep at the wheel there, they are the same. But I don't know if enough material is available the open them up to the size of the CJ/SCJ heads. I know you can open up the Victor. With the stealth you get a manifold that is close to the CJ port size out of the box, very little require if any.

Port exit dimensions:

Standard Head Intake Ports - 1.85" x 2.56"
CJ/SCJ Head Intake Ports - 2.12" x 2.86"

Air-Gap ports - 1.76" x 2.06"
CJ/SCJ Stealth ports - 2.20" x 2.49"

Sorry for the confusion. More sleep might help if I could find the time. Maybe a 36 hour days, ya thats the ticket.
