429 DOVE TJ? CJ? BOSS? how to tell

i found a great looking 429 in my buddys dads basement with DOVE-C on the heads DOVE on the manifold and i couldn't find one on the block but it was dark. it has a breaker ignition on it and the valve covers say powered by ford. my question is how do i tell what output it is? whether its a TJ or CJ OR SCJ OR what? i plan on sticking it in my E-250 ChateauTrailer special for cruisin around camping pulling my boat and playin around etc... i have a Good C6 with a B&M kit.

It's a thunderjet. CJ/SCJ's had D0OE-R heads. Boss's have hemi heads with plugs going down through the middle of the valve cover.

Compression on those is probably a bit too high for today's gas. I don't know of anyone who is running a stock thunderjet anymore. You'd likely have to mix your gas or rebuild with a slightly lower CR.

I have got one that is all stock except for a very small crane powermax and I pull a sled in our stock pulling class on 92 cotane . I believe that the 600 holley necks down the dynamic compression so bad that it will work.

I am.
Nothing fancy yet.

The 2V (320 hp) gives more torque for pulling, but the 4V (360 hp) gives more top end.

I am running 10.5:1 static CR and I can run regular gas in the winter but I need 90 octane in the summer. No premium.

I run Keith Black pistons (KB138) that I set up 0.030 quench (deck height 0.00) and smoothed (not polished) combustion chambers and pistion domes, to prevent hot spots. D0VE heads. I run a cam with a slightly more overlap that stock to dynamically bleed off some of the compresssion.

In the prepping of my baby for its maiden voyage, I have seen so many topics on thunderjet compression and drivability on pump gas. And I think it all started with my realization of it in this thread. And after reading all these topics, a few started by myself, I am planning on a cam and some premium fuel to see what happens, Dennis is doing it, as are others, It may very well depend greatly on fuel quality where you live, altitude, and a bunch of other factors.

If the premium gas and Cam with some overlap dont work, head work is next, I am determined to get this thing to run like it used to in its heyday.
