Exclamation 2.3L Knocking problems

Hi there, I replaced the timing belt on my 94 ranger today. When I removed the old one, I noticed that it was a tooth off! I had been driving the truck like that since I bought it last Fall. In any case, I installed the new one correctly (lining the timing marks) The problem I now have is that the engine is knocking even on low gears when I push the gas. I read about carbon deposits, is that a possibility? I have changed the plugs and the O2 sensor. Thanks for any help

P.S. I noticed that the base timing is OK at 10 BTC, but as soon as I plug the SPOUT, the timing jumps to 20 BTC and when I rev it up it goes past the scale to about 40 + BTC, is that normal? Please help!
