Help identifing hood ornaments

i have found 2 hood ornaments in my crapola, and i know they fit Ford pickups but not a clue on the year. They have ford part #'s ,
COTB 16720 Rh , and COTB 16721 LH, they seem to be in pretty good shape, chromed, with 3 studs on the back. They are arrow shaped with FORD spelled out in the shaft of the arrow, and F-100 in the "fluting" of the arrow. The fluting was/is black paint as well as the inside of the "FORD" letters

Hey when these are freshly restored (or when they were new) were they left bare chrome? I have seen some with the F-O-R-D painted black and the arrow's tailfeathers painted red (torch red?) and the F-100 part left chrome.

Which is correct? I have seen NOS hood ornaments before, but never these as NOS...............

Man, after years of researching that question, no truck from the factory ever left there with redin the emblems. Ford's promotional trucks had 'em and all the litature had 'em painted, but the side spears were never painted red. They look so much better red but I can't decide what I'm going to do after the resto. -4speed

4speed,
I'm sorry, but I must disagree on this one. Ford painted all their hood emblems on the 57-60, including the front emblem.

On the 1960, inside of the F-O-R-D letters, and the "tail feather" section surrounding the "F-100" were all painted red from the factory.

Please trust me on this one. It wasn't only the promo trucks. I've seen tons of 1960 trucks, from way back when they were still considered to be fairly new.

I've seen 57-59's with the factory red lettering, but never a correct 1960 one? I would think that if the hood ornament still had what was left of the original paint, that the side emblems should have it too? -4speed

Unfortunately, the red paint did not hold up very well on these emblems since it was applied over a smooth & polished chrome surface. Especially in the "FORD" letter area. The tail area held up slightly better because of the ridges. I'm pretty the ridges themselves are different than those on the '59. If you can find a pair of '60's that someone didn't already clean up (nearly impossible after all these years), you would see very small traces of faded red paint.

I have a book that has some factory photos. They are painted in these photos as well.

So you mean that the side arrow emblems, for 1960, had the FORD lettering AND the feathers around F100 painted red?? That's interesting. Huh. I've found no trace of red on the 2 pair that I have at all.

If that's proper for a restoration, I'll do it. Kenny - can you email me a pic or two of those factory photos? I'd like to keep that in my F100 file as documentation for my restoration.

If you say so, send me some pictures too! I always found it odd that it never stayed on there. Oh well, I like 'em with the red anyhow. -4speed

Hang in there, I'm still working on it (and my taxes).
I'm having some trouble scanning them. The pictures are crystal clear and you can definately see that the emblems are painted but when I scan them, the pictures lose their sharpness. Also, they are huge and if I downsize them at all, they get even worse.
Anybody have any sugguestions?

What if you scanned the image, then cropped around the emblem to just show the emblem? Also, you could email a large pic to 4speed and let him mess with it some to get it down to size and cleared up.

Hmmmm .. I'm pretty sure mine were never painted. The emblems are unrestored. The front emblem still has most of its paint, but the side emblems show absolutely no sign of ever being painted.
