Question F250 Trailer Towing Capacity

I've got a 2004 F250 6.0L TD FX4 SRW Crew Cab and I have a question about fifth wheel trailer towing capacities.
According to the owners manual and the Trailer towing guide on the Ford Web site, the Crew Cab version of this truck tows apprx 1500 lbs less than a Supercab version. Does anyone know why an extra foot or so of length would make that much difference?
The guides should 12000 for the supercab and 10400 for the crewcab

Install air bags and you wont have a thing to worry about and the ride is great.

The crew cab adds a lot of weight to the truck. I'd watch the pin weight too. About 20% of the trailer weight will be on your truck and you will probably be over the GVWR before the GCWR.

tn mac, adding air bags doesn't add to the GCWR or the GVWR.

The GVWR weight limit is a federally mandated thing, so if you add any weight to the base truck, you have to deduct some from the trailer in order to stay under the weight limit.

This doesn't necessarily mean that the truck won't pull it, just that you might be over the gross vehicle weight limit.

thats true and neither does adding a bigger block to the rear leaf spring, but that is the only difference between 350 and 250.

Yep. Nothing you add to the truck can legally increase the capacities.

In Florida, you can tell the tag agent to specify your GVWR. The cost of the tag is based on the GVWR, but it's in stages. My F250 has a DOT GVWR of 10,000#. On the scales the empty truck weighs almost 8000#.
