Drizzt,

You talkin' to me? or BlackNight? If you talking to me, no my speedo has not yet been recalibrated. I need to send my Diablo chip back to Ken to have this done, but not yet. I'm going 3 sizes larger when these wear out so I'm just going to wait until then to have this done. However, I HAVE taken that into consideration when calculating my mpg.

Hey man i have a 2001 flareside 4.2l and i get about 25-27 miles per gallon with a dual flowmaster exhuast, AEM brute force intake system and an ARE topper on the back, the topper made the most significant differance due to the aero dynamic structure

The window sticker on the truck brand new only rates the vehicle at 19 miles on the highway. I'm certain your speedo/odo is not calibrated correctly, especially if you put larger wheels on your truck. Take it to the 1/4 mile track and look at your speedo just as your crossing the finish line, then compare that number to the top speed number on your run ticket. Your run ticket is your correct speed, you'll be suprised at how much your speedo could be off. But 27mph, virtually impossible i'm sorry.

25 to 27 mpg's for a 4.2 V6?!?!?!?!?! No stinkin' way! That would be like some kind of huge world record or something. I have an intake and a decent exhaust and with the chip off I 'might' get 16 - 18 mpg's. . . maybe

Shane,

I wasn't bustin on the guy, I was simply telling him that either his calculation is off or his speedo/odo is off, which is often the case. I was making any jokes. You should know better, you know me well enough now to know that I never joke. Im always serious when it comes to fixing our trucks and bettering the knowledge of our fellow truck type dude people whom we innocently chat with for no particular reason but to have fun and be lazy at work when the sun sets in the west and the moon is half full on a rainy night when you can't see a thing but hear crickets chirping.

The best way to increase gas mileage is tire size, I recently went from a set of 245/75r16s to a set of 4 ply 235 75r16s,I have increased about 2 miles per gallon on the highway.

Uh Forddy, hate to break it to you but your wrong.

You dropped tire diameter about 1/2 inch or so. By doing this, your rear tires rotate more each mile, which gives your speedometer a false reading of a faster mph than your really going. Your odometer also is now giving you a false reading showing more miles than your actually traveling, which gives the allusion of greater mpg when actually your mpg is either the same, or worse.

Because your drivetrain turns more revolutions for each mile, you are now running at a higher rpm for the same speed. This would typically provide a decrease in gas mileage.

Whenever you change tire size you NEED to have your speedo recalibrated, otherwise all bets are off. You can have your speedo recalibrated by several means, the most common is a performance chip.

The reason I know my mileage was better was because of the fact that I based my mileage on the odometer with the distances posted on road signs. I wanted to be sure that my truck was not showing more miles than it was travelling.

Forddy,

That's not accurate. If you change your tire size, your odo will no longer be accurate, that's a fact. Your computer doesn't automatically adjust your speedo and odo when it feels new tires on the car. I don't mean to bust on you but, you can't be certain what your mileage is without having your speedo/odo recalibrated.

I just assume mileage on road signs to be accurate,so why would'nt they be. Also if there is no benefit to a smaller tire on mt V6 why is it that it dosen't die as quickly when climbing hills? I had my computer reprogrammed by a dealer for another set of tires and saw no change in mileage, in that case I went from a set of 235 70r 16 firestones to a set of 24575r16 goodyear wranglers, so explain, also would the gas gauge gauge also be inacc urate? I am familiar with the roads I travel and the distances so must I be hallucinating ,explain posting guru.
