460/429 transmission possibilities

I heard on a transmissions website that the C6 can only handle up to about 600hp even when kitted up and that the C4 is actually stronger.
I have a 429 I am putting into an Australian car which currently holds a 351C with a C4. I originally was going with a C6 for the transplant , but now I'm not so sure, as the 429 will be putting out around 600hp at the flywheel. Do you guys think the C6 will have problems?

I heard somewhere that the 351C has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 460/429's. Does this mean the C4 will bolt straight up? I can't imagine it, but this is my first effort with a big block, so enlighten me people.

False. The C-6 can be built to handle over 1000hp and there are a couple guys with monster trucks running them. The C-6 is a better choice for your uses. Just find a competent builder and tell him your needs. With high horse you will also need an auxillary cooler.

And no, the 351C does not have the same bolt pattern as a 429/460. The 351C has the small block bolt pattern. The 429/460 shares the same bolt pattern as the 351M/400.

There are C4 bellhousings with that pattern, but they are neither common or cheap.

Thats what we're here for

www.broaderperformance.com is a good link for a competent builder who knows what it takes to set up C-6s for real horse.

I second proeliator on broaderperformance. Jay knows how to make transmissions for our high performance Fords. I had him build me a C6 for my 460 and it works great! Good luck.

Now I have a question, will any tranny with the correct bolt pattern, such as one off of a 351M or a 400, bolt directly to a 460?

Yes. The bolt pattern is the same. However, there are differences with the torque converters. Some have a different sized pilot ****. Just use the correct converter for the engine.

Sounds good. What about standard tranny's? is the input shaft different?
