The Fotd GAA tank engine was based on an unsuccessful V-12 aircraft engine Ford was experimenting with. I have heard that it was based on a Rolls-Royce design.

Joe, your correct as it was a Neoplan bus maybe 30 passenger. It had a belt drive to a 90 degree gear box that turned the radiator fan on the left side. For what looked like a small motor that thing moved quite well even when full of crap as a storage shed. Thanks for the information.
Just think how a GAA would look and perform in a 68 F250. This would be a step up on the 427 cammer motor.

I have a 1960 F1000 with this engine so I've heard quite a bit about it from the old timers, I've been told that it came out in 1958, I've also been told that the first 3208 Caterpillar diesels were built on Ford 534 blocks.

Actually, I remember hearing that Ford tried to make a diesel version of it in the mid-60's, but the project ran into trouble. International made a diesel version of their big gas V-8, the DV-550, and G.M.C. had diesel versions of both their gas 478 V-6 and 637 V-8's, the Toro-Flow's. The forerunner of the Cat 3208 was the 1140/1150/1160 V-8's, and those were designed by Cat for Ford (though International and G.M. used them as well).
