Channeling the body

The thought of channeling the 56 has crossed my mind, I have done it to an ch**y s-10 before, I just want to know what you guys opinions are, do it ,don't do it , any pics of one done? I crossed to the darkside a while ago whats a little more cutting going to hurt, maybe i could lay the running boards on the pavement.

Isn't is already channeled? I mean from a factory standpoint. I guess you could maybe do a 1-2in channel still, but is it really worth it? Maybe I'm use to the 57-60's and 53-56's are different? -4speed

Yeah it channeled from the factory, but i was thinking of some serious frame laying (like the mini truckers do, lowrider style) plus its a great ebrake, just let out the air in the air ride.

Hi

You may want to do the lowered susp first.

If you were thinking of keeping the stock radiator then the clearance from top of rad to hood would tell you how much you can channel it, also I would think you will have to lose the frt bumper or cut the frt of the frame and drop bumper mounts.

Steering column location could be a problem.

Sure go for it.

I already got a drop axle and leafs on the front, i was also going to lose the bumpers also, stock rad. went a while ago due to the choice of engine i put in, the column issue i forgot about, maybe cut it by the firewall an put a u-joint in? Is that possible with the stock steering box or does it require the tension a straight shaft gives it?

If I were doing the channel with the stock steering gear I would cut the column and use a U-joint.

I think Ididit makes a tilt column for a stock box but I bet you will pay a good price for it.

You may have to move the stock gas tank out of the cab also but that will depend on how much you channel it. If you keep it in the cab you may have to change the fill location.

I vote for moving the tank.

leave enough room for speed bumps and dead raccoons.

Are you talking about channeling the body or a complete body drop? I dont understand what channeling and scraping the ground have in common?

Wow! You have crossed to the dark side haven't you...If you are going for ultra low, I would think an air bag suspension would get you as low as you want to go for less money and work than a channel job. You are talking some serious fab work if you want to channel the truck...

If you'd want to lay each end of the frame on the ground, the rear fenders would limit an extremely small tire size. -4speed

I already have the air suspension lined up for it and it is as low as the suspension will allow it to go without hacking the frame up front . i flipped the front axle , added a drop axle, and yanked the leafs for 2 inch lower ones and it is about 1 inch from the frame, i will get 9 inches of lift though. I figure i neeed to replace the floors anyway and i done it before so it passed my mind

56effie-- channeling and bodydropping are the same, the older crowd calls it channeling, the younger call it bodydropping

oh also as far as tire size i was thinking along the lines of a 215/50/16, if i lay the body to within a 1/2 an inch of the grond it would leave me abount 3/4 inch of tire clearance

I have always drove lowriders (I skeered of heights ) I still have the first road reflector i scraped up fron the road. And the local speed bumps still show the scars of my frame rails
