Program 02 Explorer Key Fob
#2
cycle the ignition key 8 times ending in the on position, the locks should cycle push the lock button on the key fob the locks should cycle and the fob is programmed. NOTE you need to program all fobs at the same time. So if you have more than one have them all handy and program them all at the same time.

It's in the owners manual. Should be the same as my 2003. I just bought some used ones on e-bay for spare keys. I'm working from memory here, but I seem to remember that you turn the switch on to run (but do not turn so far as to turn the starter on) and off 8 times in 10 seconds or less. Leave the switch in Run on the 8th time. If you've done it right the door locks will cycle to let you know it's in program mode. Then press a button on each of the remotes you intend to use within either 10 seconds total or 5 seconds of each other, I don't remember which. Be sure you have all of the remotes you intend to program the car for when you start. After doing this only the one's programmed during the session will work. Oh yeah, it's a maximum of 4 remotes that the car can be programmed for. There was something to be done at the end, and the door locks would cycle again to indicate that all had worked, but I don't remember what it was. I did 4 remotes and they cycled after I did the 4th remote because that was all it would handle.
Hope this helps, sorry it's so scattered, I'm getting sleepy.
