Question Locaton of solenoid on 1954 F100

I am restoring a 1954 F100 back to original. So naturally I am going to put the battery back where it was, under the passenger side floor board. But where does the solenoid go? I was told to look for two studs sticking out near the passenger side exhaust manifold, but I haven't found them. But I did find a rectangular hole in that area, so now I have two questions:
Where does the solenoid go? And what is that rectangular hole for?

If there are no holes near the battery on the frame rail look on the firewall passenger side. It may not have any studs ,rather holes for screws to fasten it to the fire wall, about 1 foot down from the top of the firewall. Sorry but not sure about the correct location, it has been a while since I looked at my 54. Can check it out and get back to you if you can`t find any indication of where it should be.

Well, I guess I better crawl under my truck and check out my frame. But what about that rectangular hole I found on the passenger's side firewall? Anyone have a hole there too?

Look at my gallery and go to the picture of my engine. In the extreme left of the pic you can just see the solenoid below the heater fan motor. The battery goes as you said under the passenger side floor. the triagle might be for the deluxe fresh air heater heat control.

My solenoid is in the same place as abe's in my 55. You can kind of see it in my gallery as well.

Do you have a V8 or 6? That might make a difference.

I'm not at home to check the shop manual. Is there anything in there that would point to the location. If I remember I will check when I get home this evening.

NJ239Y,
you need to buy a shop manual and especially if you are restoring other printed literature form FORD. You can find plaenty bith original and reprint on ebay. These will give you a clear picture of where stuff was, what color, what it looked like , etc. In your search put in 1954 Ford Truck.

I have a 1954-55 shop manual. What page did you find the location on?

Over the weekend, I installed some of the wiring that I bought though Mid Fifty. The wire for the soleniod was the length of going from the junction block and horn relay to where the battery goes under the frame. So the company that made the harness must have thought that the solenoid goes there. However, when I went to buy the solenoid to starter cable from Sacramento Vintage Ford, they offered two types, both under $6.00. I new that the price could not reflect the selling price of a 30" long piece of heavy cable needed to carry 6 volts that far without a voltage drop. So Sacramento must view the soleniod where Abe's is. I am going to try the long approach for now, but if I can't turn the engine over I will go Abe's way.
