What is the slipyoke??
Our company SD went into the shop for what seemed to be a problem with the transmission slipping, but the fluid looked fine (not burnt). When you accelerated from a stop, the motor would rev a bit and then the truck would slowly grab and go. When we got the truck back, the work order simply showed them greasing a slipyoke, a $20 charge, and the truck is perfect again now. Anybody have any experience with this?? I cannot get ahold of the service tech yet today, so I am very curious about what this is? Do all SD's have this slipyoke? What, where, why?????? Thanks in advance.

What is the slipyoke??
The slipyoke is part of the driveshaft. As the suspension moves up and down, the driveshaft needs to lengthen and shorten to adjust. The slipyoke allows for this. It is a splined shaft on the end of one half of the driveshaft that fits into a splined hole in the end of the other half of the driveshaft. Look under your truck at the driveshaft. You will see a rubber corrugated boot. The boot covers up the slipyoke.
Hope this helps.

LAST EDITED ON 05-Nov-00 AT 08:00 PM (EST)[p]Doesn't sound like that was your problem. I had a problem like this and it was the shifter linkage out of adjustment. I must have hit something because it was bent a little bit. An ever so small bend with a cresent wrench and it was fine.

Thanks for the tips. I knew exactly what a slipyoke was, but had no idea how that could have made/fixed the tranny problem. I thought maybe Ford had used that term either in error or for a new part... Guess I will just have to have to get a hold of that tech and pick his brain a little.
