found a 3300 CFM cooling fan
Clasic Trucks Magazine, May 2004 has an ad for (ZIRGO cooling fans). the company says it pulls only 10 amps and will move 3300 CFM of air. cost 220.00$ shiped to my area. 16 in diameter. all the parts guys here say they will belive it when they see it. I'm gonna find out soon I just ordered one. that should be enough to keep my beast cool even with AC on here in the steamy south east. the web site is (www.zirgo.com). they did not seem to be to hot on the controlers though. I am considering the automatic one from flex-a-lite. it has the AC conections built in and has a timer for the fan to run 10 to 15 seconds after engine shutdown just like the new trucks. that ain't a bad thing with the way these FE's like to heatsoak.

Check out the flex-A -Lite web site.
www.flex-a-lite.com
I purchased one that is supposed to be too small for my motor. So far so good, but it hasn't really got hot yet and I have not used the AC yet.
I'm running the Black-Magic single 15" fan. It's supposed to be good for like 250 HP (I'm almost twice that). It runs 2800 CFM. If this doesn't work, I'll have to upgrade to the double fan that's closer to 5000cfm.

I've run a 16" fan on my 69 Mustang (tight engine bay and nearly 350hp) w/ no problems for years. On the truck i have a 14" that was given to me and even in the middle of summer (90-95deg) I have never had an overheating problem, even w/ a 325+hp 390. Both fans are Perma-Cool fans and I have been very happy w/ them. Best of all, the 16" was like $80-85 through Summit Racing.

gtex summit want's 369.00$ for the doulble fan you were talking about. that's what got me to looking at the zirgo unit. 72f100 are you running AC on your vehicles? I intend to add AC next summer. the body work is this year. that's what is driving the train for the 3300 CFM fan. I also like the idea of haveing just one fan so I can use my old shroud. but I can still cancel the order and the check. what do you guy's think?

The good thing about the Flex a lite Black Magic, it comes with a built in good quality shroud with rubber seal. It also comes with an automatic temp controller system. The mounting system is nicer than most as well.
All of these are reasons I thought it was worh the try. If it doesn't stay cool, I can use this fan on one of my other less powerful projects.

I've got to install the compreessor brackets. I should get out there and do it today. But, I'm moving a little slow after last nights Willie concert.
I'll know something soon. It's springtime in Central Texas, I can't go without AC for much longer.
My AC compressor has been tied up on the fender well. It appears to have leaked a little oil. What kind of oil goes in these things? Is it obvious where to put the oil?

No, I do not have AC on either vehicle so that obviously plays a part. On the truck I have a new 3 core radiator, a single 14" pera-cool fan, and a 180 T-stat. that 14" fan looks lost on that radiator but I have never had cooling problems so I don't bother buying a bigger one. There is room for 2 of those 14"ers on that radiator so I see no reason why 2 wouldn't cool off a truck, even w/ AC. Best of all 2 of the perma-cools would only run $160 or so. Granted, they do not come w/ a fancy shroud or a temperature switch but these can be bought seperately. For around $200 you could have 2 14" fans and a temp. switch and that should do the job just fine.

The keys to the new electric fan working are really the radiator and the water pump. If both are in top working order (stock form) or have been upgraded (recommended), then all will be good.
Remember, the only thing the fan cools is the radiator. So make sure whatever fan you choose...that its shroud cover all or most of the radiator.
My 390FE runs cool. However, I have upgraded the radiator (Griffin Aluminum), water pump (Edelbrock), dual electric fan setup (Flex-a-lite #295 with Variable speed control).
Hope this helps...

biz4two you are on the money. I just dont want the double fan set up. so I jumped on the Zirgo unit. after talking this over with some old bud's at the Ford dealership we all agreed that for the AC system to work very well at all when in stop and go traffic. you need as much air flow over the condensor and radiator as possible. especially with R 134A. 134A works, but not as well as the old R12. I do not want to go in to the reasons in this thread but will gladly start a new one if you guys are interested. any way I'm sticking with the Zirgo fan and am going to use the flex-a-lite controller. I will be mounting this in the factory shroud that covers the whole radiator surface. I will let you guys know how it turns out. every body have a great day and keep dem old FORD trucks runnin hard.
