Gauges

I would like to replace the idiot gauges for "GEN" and "OIL" in my 57 dash. Does anyone make gauges that small? Where can I find them? Thanks.

57_fordguy-

Auto meter makes a 1 1/2" size gauge in oil presure(2354) and a voltmeter(2356)

Heres a link:

I dont know if those will fit or not, it is one of the smallest gauges I have seen though, If I have time in the next day or two I will measure the diameter of the idiot light openings and see what size those are.

Its a start.

On my last truck I had installed gauges in the Stars to the left and right and kept the idot lights as well

It'll fit the guage surround(panel) in the dash, but you'll still have to cut out the thin metal tray(behind the glass) where the idiot lights are actually located to fit the depth of the 1.5in guage unless the back(of the guage) is really small. This will confuse you I bet! -4speed

Thanks 4Speed for the dash hole stuff, saved me a trip out into the nice warm sun...hows the snow??

Would be cool to install new gauges in all of the holes and loose the back metal or get it all behind the glass

Hmmmmm.......

Could be done, and would look 100% better if behind the glass. Snow was cold and frost bite kicking in....... -4speed p.s check my second gallery for pics of how the guages mount.

Thanks for the help guys, 4speed, I know what your talking about, cutting that out wont be a problem, I was only concernd about it fitting in the actual panel, (with the stars).

Thanks, Derek.

Hey Fordguy, i may be late in joining in here, but I am doing the very same thing. I didn't like the Autometer guages mentioned earlier as they had black backgrounds. I found a line made by Autometer but cheaper....the name slips me now....and they have white backgrounds, 1 1/2" dia, only thing was i wanted an electric oil press and a full sweep.
Another thing i was am going to do is paint the metal tray (the part the speedo is attached to behind the glass) gloss white to brighten the background when the dash lights come on. Also i am painting the original fuel and temp guages white, with black indicators and orange needles. Then everything will match.

I am bugged since i posted this last night because i can't remember the name of these darn guages......and i need to order them. I wrote down their part numbers and the price but i can't find the paper now. Moon guages doesn't ring a bell and i searched the Autometer site last night and nothing run my bell.
They were 1 1/2", white faced, voltmeter, water temp and mechanical oil press, about $70 for the trio and Canadian Tire sold them but would have to order them in.

Did a little research and the most common sizes for gauges are the 2 1/16 and 2 5/8 diameters, and mostly black

Did find a nice setup from stewart warner...new stuff with a semi 57-60 ford truck style, comes in burgandy, blue/grey and titanium colors:
http://www.stewartwarner.com/Catalog/2pwr.html

Found this company that has remanufactured Instuments...Sorry no 57-60 ford but do have a 54 ford truck
couuld call and ask if they will do a 57-60 panel??? looks like they can customize it as well and do color changes:

http://www.speedometershop.com/enc.htm

Not much else that I see in 1-1/2" gauges

J&B Microfinish ( www.jbmicrofinish.com ) is prototyping an insert for the 57-60 dash right now. They can custom make it for whatever brand and number of gauges you want.

A friend of mine put gauges behind the stock opening in the dash of his 56. They look and work great. Is there a way to do it without having to cut the dash insert on your model? Just curious, John
