I was in a hurry.......

I was in a hurry to remove my injection pump in the dark now I have the replacement pump and have a question. Does anyone have a picture of the way the gear sits on the shaft? Should the shaft be flush with the end of the gear? It the key is in the wrong spot can you still start all 3 of the bolts? I think I have it right but now I am questioing myself... Any light on the subject is appriciated.

Gavin

Spectramac is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE. Spectramac is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
If it isn't in the right spot it won't bolt on flush. There's a dowel pin on the gear that matches a notch in the pump shaft.

Just I comment here... You should have taken your time!!!!! Each line is excactly the same length and if you had by chance bent one of damaged one you could be in big trouble!!!!!

Just my 2 cents....

Gavin, how did you remove the pump? Did you take the drive gear and the tower off at the same time or did you remove the pump thru the back of the tower?

Apparently I need to clarify. I did not take the pump off carelessly so I could damage the pump lines and anything else I wished to hit with a hammer then write in to the forum and ask people to lecture me on should haves.

bilder12,
I removed the pump through the back of the housing while leaving the housing attached and the gear timed. I put the key way to the top of the gear. I then removeed the 3 bolts, disconected the lines and remove the 3 nuts that secure the pump to the housing. I would like to confirm that the gear is on correctly before I crank the engine over or cause damage. Currently the pump shaft is recessed into the gear about 1/8". Does anyone have a picture of this or now if it is correct.

Thanks,
Gavin
