Question 3.0L towing

Hi I have a '03 ranger edge with a 3.0L engine and I'm thinking about towing a pop up camper or a small trailer to do some camping in can my 3.0 handle it? Any advice will help. (I have never towed anything before)

Hello, welcome to FTE!

First, check your Owners Manual, it has important towing information. If you don't have one, you can downolad one here:

Also, I realize you are probably not talking about a full-size travel trailer, but this thread has a lot of good information on towing in general:

I just bought an 04' edge with same engine, transmission and towing package (I have a factory 2 inch receiver hitch) The truck is rated to tow just above 2500lbs. I towed a boat that is not even half that capacity and the truck does not break a sweat. I would stick to 2000lbs dry weight (max)or less properly equipped to allow room for camping gear in your payload .

im a carpenter and for my business i tow a 5x12 inclosed trailer. I exceed the 2500 lbs all the time. all I can say is that if you are going for long distances or towing a lot ditch the tranny cooler that came with your"towing pack" and go for a bigger one. YOur tranny will bill the primary thing to fail while towing. Other than that tow away man the 3.0L ranger is a tank.
