A lift and 9000 lb. winch...... on a CROWN VICTORIA?!

I have to find some different people to hang out with. A friend (or acquaintance) of mine purchased an '89 Crown Victoria in September of last year. The price was $1000 for which he needed a loan with a co-signature. That should give you an idea of his money management capabilities. He is now (A) "going to get" a high-paying job this summer; (B) "save some cash," and (C) buy a winch for his Crown Victoria. Two months later, he spoke of lifting the old pile several inches in favor of "getting a little extra ground clearance."
I'm normally not an outspoken person, but all this equates to the most absurd, senseless pile of B.S. I have ever heard. It was all I could do to keep from laughing when he mentioned the two ideas. If he wanted a bloody trail vehicle, he should've went out and found a truck, not a luxury full-size passenger car. What's he going to use a winch for? Pulling the thing through a snowy driveway when his "mud tires" (Goodyear UltraGrips) fail to? And what about the ground clearance? I have a guess - so the garbage cans which he likes to mow down go UNDER the car instead of getting caught on the oil pan.

To be honest - I thought about putting a Mercury Sable Wagon body on an F-350 frame in the near future....

(Just for grins and creature comforts)

-But that's just me...

Haha.. I wish I could laugh the way you guys are laughing! This guy is a pompous, egotistic a**hole with no life ambition to speak of. I've known him for 5 years. He's full of himself. I see no humor in anything he does, only frustration. And that old beater of his is nothing to waste a picture on. He knows nothing about 4x4 vehicles or anything with more than 4" of ground clearance. (Had to ask me why I got out and clicked something on the front wheels before going into 4x4). He thinks there are no implications in lifting a passenger car. Hell, he thinks he can do it himself. This is the type of person who goes and swaps out some spark plugs, changes a rotor, gets a few scrapes and calls himself a mechanic.
I believe he is victim to extreme jealousy, and the mud pit I took him through in my truck set him off. I'm sick of hearing him boast about his junker and the future police push bumpers and whatnot; I just had to let off some steam. I know I have the better and more capable vehicle, but gawd almighty this guy knows how to get on your nerves. Wish I could tow that heap into a rocky washout and leave it there along with him. You guys know anyone like that?

Hey Greywolf, what model of Sable wagon? Retro '80s, Contemporary '90s, Jellybean, or Refined Jellybean?

A lift and 9000 lb. winch...... on a CROWN VICTORIA?!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-May-02 AT 00:46 AM (EST)]Some people just need a good smack upside the head with a 2x4. The thought of doing what he plans, on what sounds like and extremely limited budget is sheer stupidity! Hate to see how he thinks when he's had a few too many. :-X23

I once had it figured that an Escort would fit on a Ranger 4X4 frame almost perfectly . Fortunatly for all concerned I nevered followed through. I've seen a Trans Am 4X4 (best thing for it next to the crusher) a Lincoln Town Car, it was nicely done. And theres some guy running around town with a Pont Transport on a 4X4 frame. It looks real stupid. But good news it's for sale.
To each thier own.

That would be a sight to see. If he can do it, I say fine. But if he's just blowing smoke...well. What can you do?

But yeah, I know what you mean. I had to work with a guy like that. If I went fast, he went faster. If I gone high, he'd gone higher. If I had something, he had something better. You couldn't get the guy to shut up even when you called his bluff. I just gave up and nodded when ever he started in. Maybe you could help your "friend" with his project. Talk shop. Give him some technical advice and ask him what he thinks. Ask him questions about how he is going to do this. What problems does he think he might have and how will he solve them. When he can't keep up, he'll shut up. Just a thought. Or you might creat a bigger monster. YIKES!

I LIKE projects like this. Who says we all have to be the same, or drive a particular vehicle? In our town we had a guy with a 4x4 Cadillac Seville and it looked really cool.
