headers

Hey,

I am thinking aobut buying JBA or Mac headers!

Do you guys know any secret tips for installing them on my 99 4.2?

Which ones are better?

Do you guys know anywhere i can get a good deal on some?

Do they make you lose bottom end HP?

Thanks
Kman

Depends on you really...

MAC headers -- $300 and very reliable
JBA headers -- $500 and I've heard good and bad

MAC headers -- take 2 months to come in
JBA headers -- take 2 weeks to come in

I'd get the MAC headers any day over the JBA's because I'm just patient enough.

Well...Let me ask you this...are MAC headers ceramic coated? If not, I promise the process to get them done is gonna be 200+ dollars to get done. I love my shortie JBAs. I dont think they are as bad as people think.

Yes, MAC headers are ceramic coated.

You have to call MAC and order them by phone. Trust me, it's not as bad as you think! Just go to www.macperformance.com and go the icon that say contact info and dial the toll free number. You can order them by phone, and from what I hear it's a pretty simple process.

The reason they take so long to get in is because their aren't a lot of 4.2 trucks wanting headers, so they don't have them in stock. They special make them right there after you order them, so you basically get a brand spankin' new product with a gaurantee. The downside is that it take 1 to 2 months for the process to take place.

Garrett, don't get me wrong, I love the JBA's myself. I think they are just fine...just a little pricey that's all.

I'm not sure if they're ceramic coated either. They are coated with something, but if it's a ceramic coating then it's the worst I've ever seen. MAC's are nice (and inexpensive) but they rust relatively fast. JBA's have a much nicer coating on them and will last much much longer, but unfortunately JBA doesn't make LT's for V6 Mustangs

In case anybody ever needs headers, etc. coated:

They did a set of old rusted headers for one of my motorcycles. Their work is OUTSTANDING both in quality and service.

so are you saying they are identical in improvement? How did you test compare each set? Were both sets for the 4.2? Why did you get the jba's, then switch to the mac's??

well to be honest i never did any dyno-ing or any scientific research on the matter, i had the jba's and the flanges were cracking so i got the mac's. i did the jbas myself and they were hard to bolt on (in my opp. they bolted on kinda funny) but the guy that put my mac's on said they were just a direct bolt on. and yes both sets were for the 4.2. I just liked the feel and responce after the mac's were on much better than the jba's. I guess its all just a matter of preferance, but then agian not everyone has the $ to go blow on both sets and see which ones they like better.

I'm just gonna buy some eggs and put them in the slots where the headers bolt on. Then I can make some chickens.
