Trailer towing?

Hey guys. I have a question for anyone here that tows holiday trailers with their '04 F-150. Best as I can tell the GVWR on a 4x4 Lariat is 7200 lbs. Once you add in the curb weight, hitch, people, options and the little bit of cargo you might carry, I come up with about 900 lbs left for the hitch. Am I missing something here?!?! I would like to ultimately haul a 5th wheel, but jeez, finding one with a DRY hich weight lighter than 1000 lbs in a floor plan I like is just about near impossible. I'm leaning towards a 5th wheel because of the head room in the unit (I'm 6'4" and the AC and lights give me a head ache). If you could let me know what make of 5th wheel you haul that fits with in the GVWR and the GCWR I would really appreciate it.

The XLT has about 500 lbs more I think, because of the 17in wheels. I would think the FX4 might be the same and you can get more options. I kinda wish that I would have ordered the FX4 instead of the Lariat now, but I have waited two months so far and still no truck, I am not going to reorder and wait another two months, camping season will be 1/3 over.

Also, some discussion about the bed height on the 04's, trying to figure out how to keep the camper from hitting the bed.

There are some pull behinds with pretty good size head room on the market.

I have a 2003 26' Prowler and purposely looked for the "lighter" models. It's pretty amazing the headroom and options I have, yet the trailer loaded still only weighs 5500 lbs. I keep about 1/3 water in the tank while towing as well. Of course I use the weight distribution hitch which also helps. Tonque wieght is a little over 500 lbs and the new 04 tows this trailer awesome! Plus, I have a pretty good size trailer. I suggest getting a larger "light" model. They use a lighter frame, but mine has held up well after over 5000 miles of towing last year. I towed this with my 02 S Crew last year and the 04 definately has more torque up the hills.
