If you change the oil yourself the first time does it void the warranty??

It does not void waranty if you use the proper oil and filter. The product must meet or exceede the ford spect in the owners manual. Just keep good recietes for the oil and filter. And don't forget to keep a log about the change dates.

Don't worry, it was easy. You just need the right filter wrench. Access is easy from both under and above.

Why does the factory have to torque these filters so much. When I take off a filter I put on I need no tools. I just changed the oil in my wifes Liberty and had to buy the filter wrench to get the job done. On my 99 F150 I destroyed the filter getting it off. I am sure the 04 F150 will provide just as much fun.

I'll bet you put a dab of oil on the gasket like I do. When I pulled the first filter off, I could feel the gasket resisting like there wasn't any oil on it. That's my guess; Ford probably doesn't oil the gasket when they install the filter, which makes it a lot harder to remove.

Actually this is not a requirement, and Ford can not deny warranty because of a lack of records. But it is a good idea to keep records and receipts anyway...if anything, for resale.
