Extra Care / Premium Care Extended Warranty Programs
We are just about ready to run out a purchase our new 2001 Super Duty truck. Either the F350 Crew Cab 4x2 V10 4.30 or the F350 Crew Cab 4x2 Diesel 3.73. Has anyone had any experience with these two extended warranty plans. Should I get one? If so, which one do you recommend? Are they worth the cost?
Thanks for your help.

Extra Care / Premium Care Extended Warranty Programs
I have had a number of problems with my truck,unfortunatly the most recent problem was transmission failure and was not covered by the warranty 62,000 miles.It cost me $1,700 to have it fixed(have a friend who owns tranny shop) would have cost more somewhere else.I don't know how much the extended warranty costs ,but this will give you an idea what could go wrong. Good luck with the new ride. Richard 1999 F350 crewcab 4x4 v10

PLEASE do your self a real money saving favor! Look at warranty programs on the internet BEFORE you go to the dealer!!
Case in point.... my 1999 Contour Dealer plan (3 offered)100.00 deductiable OVER $2,000 This was added to the contract price BEFORE I saw the papers!!! Dealer finaly showed me his price book It was really 720.00 I told him to stick it.
Same thing on the internet... 75,000 mile 50.00 deductiable BUMPER TO BUMPER 740.00 I bought it when i got the new car home.

Taz;
I just bought an extended warranty for my 2000 SDD from Warrantybynet.com at a very nice price. If you tell them I referred you than you may be able to get the same thing I got.
It is a 6yr 100000 mi warranty, bumper to bumper, no deductible, and they will even cover the $100 deductible that Ford will charge you if you take it in under the 100000 mi for the engine.
Drop me an e-mail at and I will give you the info.

I didn't get the extended warranty at the time I purchased my 99 truck to avoid financing the cost but planned on shopping for one before the factory warranty expired. About 9 months after buying the truck, I received an offer from Ford on applying for the Extra Care / Premium Care Warranty and I took advantage of it. All programs offered were 3 to 6 years (from date of purchase)with different mileage and deductible options. I opted for the Extra Care 6yr. 60,000 mile with a $100.00 deductible. By buying it within the first 12 months of the purchase date, it was cheaper. Mine cost $850 and change (I can't remember the exact amount).
I probably could have found a lower priced warranty but as Ken stated, there are some flakey companies out there that might be slow to respond to a claim or be out of business years later when you have a problem. But there are also reliable ones. My priority was "dependability" as it was when I bought my great truck.
I hope this will give you a comparison to what the dealer is offering. I'm sure Ford will send you the same offer in the mail within a year or you can contact Ford Motor Company yourself for the information.
I hope this helps,
Vern

The Ford Extra Care / Premium Care will be available to you for 12 months after you recieve the truck. I know this as I have a 2000 F250SD and every month Ford sends me the offer in the mail. The price is the same as you would pay when purchasing the truck. After 12 months there is a $100 fee for getting the extended warranty. In summary if you are planning on getting the Ford warranty, you have up to 12 months to decide without any addition costs. However, some dealers do cut deals with the extended service plans if you get them at the time of purchase.

The only advantage I see of buying the Ford plan is less hassle at the dealership. For the others, they need preauthorization before doing any work. I bought my warranty from my Credit Union for $900. It's a 5yr, 100,000 mile warranty with a $25 decuctable. Bumper to bumper. North American Warranty Services.(1-800-462-2452) I recently had my first claim and was worried about how things would go. My service advisor said that he was familiar with this company, that they were one of the better ones out there. He faxed them the estimate and had a reply, with payment, in 10 minutes. Even he was impressed. I had to pay $25 and $7 shop fees. One word of advice though... SAVE ALL YOUR RECEIPTS FOR ANY MAINTENANCE WORK YOU DO.
