rebuilding carb'ed 351W

Hi guys,

I've been absent from the board for quite a while since I really haven't been driving the truck much. However, I am going to have to pull it as I was losing oil pressure badly at highway speeds and all the gaskets and seals were starting to leak. Anyway, since I'm tearing into things, I am looking into a few ideas.

1) Any thoughts on swapping in a newer EFI unit complete with wiring harness, etc.? I am in no hurry to get this done

2) upgrades to the engine while it's on the stand being rebuilt. I've looked into a cam, but what about other upgrades. I have smog testing in my county so I can't go crazy until next year when they do away with it. I do mainly towing with this truck, and it has a 3 spd C6 so it tows great already but I'd like to have a bit more power on the hills.

I found an 84' Bronco being parted out, it has a 351W w/bad head gasket. Will these engines be the same? I'm missing alot of emissions stuff and this engine has everything on it already and I don't have to hunt around to swap stuff over then.

Thanks,

Bryan

What year truck do you have and what engine?

I will assume yours is pre efi, so yeah it the 351w is complete and you have a 302 or 351w then it should drop right in.

Oops, left it out of the post. My truck is a 84' F250 2WD with a 351W. The photos of it look identical (if you picture all of my missing smog equipment where it should be). If my truck was a F150 I wouldn't even have asked but I know the 250 has some small differences in the frame and suspension and I don't know if there are differences in the engine as well?

My biggest problem is actually getting the engine, since it is my truck with which I would normally have retreived it and it is in approximately 187 pieces in my garage right now :-)
