Being Lied To?????????

I have had my 04 f150 Lariat 4x4 ordered for a month now. I called my dealer today to see where the truck was in the building process. He told me that the dvd had held it up but it was being built. I have read in the forum that some guys have their vin numbers so I asked him for my vin number. He told me that he should have it by the end of this week. Am I being lied to or is it possible to have the truck close to delivery without the vin.

Waiting:
2004 F150 LARIAT 4x4 BLACK/TAN LEATHER
every option except moonroof.

I know there was a delay due to DVD availability, to I don't think your dealer is giving you the run-around.

After my VIN came it was only a matter of days before it shipped. I received it a week after the vin was given.

When I got my VIN (still no truck) I also got a print out of everything I had ordered on the truck. Upon reading over my list of options I noticed a small mistake, instead of getting LT275 tires I got P275 tires. I told the inventory manager (was directed to him since my salesman that day) about the mistake and he told me the following...

The LT tires are causing delays bc ford isn't getting enough of them to meet the demand. If we had ordered your truck with those tires you woudln't have your VIN now, it would take atleast another 3-4 weeks before the plant would even accept your order.

I would assume the same holds true for the DVD player. When your order was sent to the plant and it had the DVD option selected it's just extended the time before you can get a VIN.

just my .02

not too worry. you're not being lied to. my truck was ordered for about 2 mmonths before I got a VIN#. Currentlyu my build date is 22 March. Mine too was delayed because of the DVD player. I'm at the 10 week mark now.
hang in there!! You're going to have to be patient. If you have your order sheet, you can call the VOPC hotline to see what is going on with your order. the number is <!-- -->. You'll need your dealer numer (5 digits without the letter), year (2004), body style (W14 if SCrew), and your order number (mine is found on the upper left of my order sheet).
if you've been only waiting a month, consider yourself lucky. it gets worse as the wait goes on!! good news is that the DVD productions is ramped up and shopuld be now keepiong up with the orders, so those of us with DVD orders should see them soon!!

I Just ordered my truck last night and the sales manager told me that for the Southeast region, Ford is only allowing 3% of the orders to go through that are based on the 133" wheelbase (SuperCab/5.5' Bed). Plus I ordered the LT275 tires. I hope I get it before July when my Ranger lease runs out!

I ordered Jan 15, Build date of week of March 1st, I have had a VIN for weeks, now build date moved to week of March 22.

I had the LT tires and DVD and Leather captains. The dealer took off the crome step bars, said they would put them on when it gets here.

I would be ****ed, but not surprised if the build date is moved again.

I used to have a build date of March 1st, too. Mine is also now March 22nd. I got my Vin about 3 weeks ago. The latest delay was because of the DVD, but rambunctious informed me that the production for DVDs has just jumped up and huge shipment was delivered to Ford. My build date hasn't slipped for the past week now, so I thinkit is safe (fingers crossed).

THANKS GUYS!!! Misery does love company Oh by the way I tried to go and buy a chevy today. My best friend owns a chevy dealership here in New Orleans and he gave me the .05 cent tour. I just couldn't make myself do it. The ford has it all over the chevy. He is upset with me for going ford but he even admitted itwas a nicer truck!!!!!!!

I guess here in B.F. Egypt we get everything last (that's not always a bad thing!). Tommorow 3-19 will be the 15th week anniversary of my order being accepted by Ford! I have not spoken with the dealer since the 14th anniv. and was told at that time that he had just run a production report (whatever he called it) which said that 0 (ZERO) percent of the DVD systems were being built. He also said he was instructed to not take any orders for trucks with the DVD system!

Is he just baiting my grizzly?

There's no reason at all why you shouldn't have a VIN number if your dealer has the allocation for that truck. What happens is, if there's a delay with the factory, you'll still get a VIN number but your order will just sit there until the factory can build it. The dealer submits the order, Ford accepts it on Thursdays - immeditately if your dealer has allocation and at that point your dealer gets a DORA (dealer order reciept acknowledgment) and a VIN number, then it is assigned a build week, a build day and an order in that day it will be built, then it's built, shipped and delivered. That's essentially the process. Don't let them BS you with the DVD excuse. Even if your order was held up for that, you'd STILL have a VIN number assigned if your dealer has the allocation.

By the way, my order was submitted on Feb 17th and it was delevered to the dealer yesterday! Granted, mine is a SuperCab and no unusual or hard to get options.
