v10 spark plug blowout- need info on what ford knows about it

Gentlemen (and ladies),

About a year ago, I was able to find out a lot of information about the V10 from this board, and the issues with the piston slap. I am very appreciative of that help. However, I have a new problem I hope that someone can help out with. About a month ago, my fathers 1999 F250 with the v10 blew the spark plug out? I haven't seen the truck since it happened or the repair order, so I'm not sure exactly what happened. Anyways, the head on the passenger side and the affected piston were replaced- total repair bill some $4300, covered by the extended warranty plan. Apparently, the company that holds the plan (not Ford, it turns out) didn't want to pay, because Ford knows about this problem? I did not find out about the problem until after the repairs were made, and the insurance company did pay. They refused to replace the engine, would only pay to have it repaired. I can't imagine that a new crate engine would have cost over $4000 installed with core exchange, though. However, my father's mechanic (not at Ford dealership) has heard that Ford wants these motors back, that they have had reports of the spark plugs blowing out the hole. I would appreciate anything that anyone can tell me about this issue, including a description of what exactly happened?

Well, the shop i work for has 4 tow trucks all fords, 2 PSD and one 6.9L and the 4th is the V-10. At 48,000 miles the plug shot out and the truck had the same damage as you described, and I am fairly sure that Ford did not want anything to do with this but because the owner of the shop and his dad have bought over 20 truck from ford in the past 4 years, they reconsidered and flipped the bill, but like you said, the motor was not replaced. This was in an F550. Just my .02$
