Popping/Grinding hubs

I just received delivery of my '01 on Friday and drove 150 miles at speeds up to 80 mph with the hubs manually locked from the dealer/factory, but with the auto lock in 2H. I varied the speed as I usually do to break it in, but now I'm really worried about the hubs.
I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for the god awful grinding sound when doing tight left and right turns.

I test drove another truck on the lot and manually locked it's hubs, but it didn't make the same sound when doing figure 8's.

QUESTION:
What kind of damage could there be and should I worry?
If I shouldn't worry about driving at high speeds with the hubs locked, is the popping/grinding sound indicative of another problem?
