Oil loss

Recently my truck has started to lose oil. It's a 2000 CC/Dually with a V-10, auto with a 4.73 rear end and has 26,000 miles. It never needed any oil between changes until recently. In towing a 350 mile round trip it is using a 1/2 quart plus. It's towing a 24' enclosed trailer with a 1,160 lb sprint car and related paraphenlia. There is oil residue all over the tailgate and the front of the trailer. The dealer found no leaks apparent anywhere. They added a steering dampner at no charge to stop/reduce shimmy and are doing an oil consumption test. One problem is the trip is no longer necessary as the track quit running sprints and we only travel 12 miles to the track now.
Hopefully someone here can shed some light on the problem as I'm stumped. There are no signs of smoking and the tailpipe seems dry but it's been off the long runs for three weeks now. It must be exibiting the problem only at high speed under a heavy load. The only modification is a K&N filter. I've used 5w-30 Mobile One full synthetic with a Mobile One filter since 5,000 miles and change regularly at 5,000 mile intervals. The truck runs and pulls great and it has otherwise presented no problems. Thanks

Oil loss

I have heard that the V-10 can develop a problem (or have it right from the factory) with the oil draining back to the pan from the heads. Apparently the oil return holes are very small and it doesn't take much to clog them. I also heard that this is one of the reasons they went to 5-20w oil.

Oil loss

hey man i have the same problem you have.
i have a 00 f-350 super duty xlt. when i hall heavy loads im talking 30,000 lbs oil starts to leak out from around the top of the oil filter.i took the truck back to the dealership and asked a dude that works on the super duty trucks why oil was leaking out from the top of my oil filter. he said its because the load on the truck is so heavy the engine is being stressed therefor causing the oil pressure to become so high the oil starts to leak out around the seal on the oil filter. so im constantly adding oil to the truck.i hope i was able to give you some info adout you oil problem...

****ryboy: "Doc, it hurts when I do this."

Doc: "Stop doing that."

Pulling 30K? You probably won't have an oil leak problem much longer. RTFM.
