flowmaster cat back system comes with a 70 series....the most modest of all thier mufflers....if you want simulated duals, get a series 40 with single in and duel out and have a muffler shop bend some pipe for you.

If you want loud, cut the muffler out and just add pipe to fit. Save the cash for some other tricks.

Well it sounds like you don't want a strait pipe or a Y-pipe so I would probally go with a 40-series Flowmaster, by adding a muffler you will make the V-10 deaper while lossing a little sound, kindof a win-win situation. Try and do anything you can to deepen the sound, try to get that bumble-bee sound out and that big-block sound in, make it sound mean, not just loud and *****ty.

I went with a flowmaster original 40 series 3"SI/2.5"DO and I am having a friend with a tube bender make me up two tailpipes that exit behind each rear wheel.I decided to get some tips tonight.I got a pair of Pilot 4" double wall slash cut SS tips from Napa. I thought they would look big but due to the doudle wall they look alright. The inner wall measures 3 3/8' ID so that breaks up the center. I can't wait to get it installed on monday the 29th.The worst part is going to be the removal of the stock system on sunday. I hate the neat rubber bushings the factory uses to suspend the muffler and tailpipes, they work great but are a pain to remove. I plan to use my air hammer to take the muffler head pipe apart and if that fails there's always the sawzall or the liquid hacksaw . I will report on the sound on Monday night.

I have a flowmaster 40 and its just slightly louder than stock. It sounded good without the muffler, but I was told you need the back-pressure or you loose torque??

That is not encouraging to hear. What style 40 series do you have? I have listened to all the soundclips that I know of for the V10 with the 40 series and I thought they did not sound bad. I have also listened to clips of the V10 with no muffler and they sounded good to.

Flowmaster 40 delta flow, single in/out 3", mounted in the stock location. I would just yank the muffler and try running a down pipe or something for a week to see if you like it. From what I hear the cat really absorbs alot of the noise.. Some people think the V-10 sounds like a six on roids without the muffler, but don't listen to them, the V-10 sounds awesome cranked up! (I've always hated that analogy btw)

Removed the muffler today and installed a 3" gas stove pipe for a temporary downspout "Cheap $3.59 compared to the $22.00 exhaust pipe downspout" untill I get the muffler installed on Monday. I sliped the Flowmaster muffler on just to see what it sounded like. It was definatley louder than stock but it didn't seem to sound as good as the soundclips I have heard, however its had to tell what exactly it sounds like from the cab. Hopefully it will sound better with tailpipes to echo thru. I will run with no muffler until Monday. Without the muffler I think it has a 6cyl tone until you hit 3000+ rpm when it gets the indy car sound! Had my GF rev it up when I was outside and it sounded ok. Fairly loud.

I got my system installed today. It sounds good not obnociously loud but it does have a good tone. It sounds good idling right up through to 4000rpm. I had the GF listen and then step on the gas so I could hear it. The system sounds very simmular to the wat the exhaust sounded without the muffler, maybe a little deeper. Hopefully it will get a little louder after a week or two.I bought the original 40 series flowmaster and have to say it does not omit any interior noise when driving down the road with the windows up or down. If all muffler guys are as good at bending pipe as my guy is I would recomend having a custom system done. Mine is neat and tighter to the frame then it was stock, and I did not have to remove the spare tire I can't help but kick myself for waiting two years to upgrade the exhaust due to fear of bad sound .Now I know how good a V10 can sound

Thumbs up

Here's an update on the performance of my new exhaust.
Grrrreat, I would recomend the FM 40 to anybody that is looking for a better sounding exhaust. It has been a couple of weeks since I put mine on and the sound is great now. The muffler is broke in now and at the tailpipes there is a good powerful tone for all to hear. It is not loud at all in the cab.
I have had many people comment on how good it sounds. I'm glad to have had all the members at FTE give me insight on what muffler to buy.

DJR 17,

The Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series is not the same as the orignal 40 series. The Delta Flows are designed to be quieter than the original, but still retain the increased flow. If you want the tone, you have to go with the original 40 series.
