My family owns a few NAPA stores so I kind of partial.

Dusty1: NAPA filters are teh same as WIX. So if you have a NAPA store around you can get them there.

btw I used Mobil 1 0w20

Thanks for the post on Napa filters. Screwchief posted an excellent article on oil filter tests--I highly recommend taking the time to read it!

I haven't been able to find Mobil1 (which I've used in my '91 Ranger its entire life), in 5W-20 or 0W-20. I've also heard that M1 is no longer a pure synthetic. I guess that's good (although I don't ever remember hearing that they changed it) because I've heard that Ford recommends a synthetic blend for the 5.4L rather than a pure synthetic.

The Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend was 1.86 at Wally World in VA. Heck of a lot cheaper than M1.

yeah its a good read but a little outdated. For instance NAPA/Wix no use a silicon ant drain back valve (just an fyi).

I got 0w20 from my local oil supplier. As far as I know Mobil 1 is still full synthetic

Ford Forum,
I have a new 2004 F150 s.cab long bed 4.6L. Did the first oil change today and was lucky to have an easy time removing the factory oil filter. I used a Purolator PL24651 and used Mobil 1 oil syn. I was told by our chief mech. at the fd dept. that mobil 1 is good for 10,000 between changes. On my old F150 1996, I have used it 1998 and beyond. I have had no problems at all!

Any thoughts?

oil filter choice

I went to an oil analysis class from Noria, and their tests on oil filters showed that Mobil 1's filter was the second best they ever tested - over 93% of particles 10 microns or larger were removed in 1 pass. The best they tested was a Delco Gold filter - I'll have to look up the full name - it is a very long name. I can't find anyone that sells them, though. I drive 500 miles a week, some on dusty roads, so I spend the extra on the Mobil 1. AutoZone sells a "cap type" filter removal tool that fits the mobil 1 PERFECTLY. Reduced my oil change time drastically.
