trailer brake controller on 04 F150
OK , yeah this is a tech question, but I am wondering about the installation of an electric trailer brake controller on a new 04 F150. I was told by a salesman (!!) that when equiped with a trailer tow package, the wiring is already ran up under the dash. If true, I am hoping that all I will need to do is hook up the wires to the brake controller providing I know which wires are for the brake controller. I am just curious about how difficult it might be to install with the ABS brakes. I installed the controller on my GMC but it was an older truck without ABS. I would like to install the controller myself once I get my new truck to save a few bucks, but I dont want to screw anything up. Thanks.

I have a 2004 f-150 supercrew with the tow package. It came with the brake controller wiring adapter, fuse and plug. The adapter and fuse just plugs in and the wiring connects to the brake controller. I have a new controller coming in the next couple of days and will let you know how hard it was to install.

janstang351, if you buy the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller, and the Tekonsha wire harness for a Ford, it is literally a plug and play installation. All you do is plug in the fuses and relays that Ford sent with your tow package, plug the Tekonsha wire harness into the Tekonsha Prodigy controller, then plug the other end of the harness into the plug under the dash. Total time expended for wiring.....maybe 5 minutes if you take the time to read the instructions.
The Tekonsha Prodigy is currently one of the best controllers available on the market. It even works when you are backing up. Steep inclines don't make it overly aggressive like other pendulum type controllers do. And when you aren't towing, you simply unplug it, slip it in the nice little pouch that comes in the kit and toss it in the glove box.
