Crankshaft pulley removal on a 1950 flathead 8
I am helping a friend restore a 1950 F5 pickup which spent the last 53+ years as a fire truck in South Dakota. It only has 3000 miles on the clock. It is his plan to turn the truck into a regular F5 pickup and put a utility body on in place of the old 400 gallon tank.
In any case the thing that is giving us fits right now is that we would like to replace the front seal on the motor but we dont know how to go about removing the crankshaft pulley. We do not have access to the Ford tool shown in the 50 shop manual. The seal does not appear to be leaking now but I would rather deal with it now with the motor out of the truck than wait for it to fail later. Even with only 3K on the odometer, seals tend to dry out after 53+ years. Any thoughts about how to make/adapt such a tool would be appreciated.
