rotor replacement

Are you trying to get the rotor off the hub? Just take the wheel off, hubs apart, caliper off, then take the rotor assembly off. Then you can use a chisel and hammer between the rotor and the outer hub assembly to separate the rotor from the hub. Then you can use a hammer to hit the studs out of the rotor, and hammer/punch to put them back in a new rotor (which I assume is what you're trying to do). Just make sure you have the little splines lined up before you hammer away.

rotor replacement reply
what does it take to remove the hub, in order to remove the rotor? does the outer ring on the rotor come off first and then the rotor or all together? Do I need to mess with the star screws on the very end in order to do any of this? They hold the 4x4 cap on and hide the guts.
I love this truck, but it's beating me
this time.
thank you

You need a haynes manual my friend. I have manual hubs, I don't know what you have. But, you take the small screws off, then take the cover off. Mine has a ring around the outside you take off, then with snap ring pliers there is clip to take off, and then you pull the cam assembly out. Pull out the safety clip, and with a special hub socket you take the lock nut off and then you can take the rotor off. Now is the time to replace wheel bearings if they havn't been done, clean it all up nice and re-grease and re-pack the bearings. Make sure the seals are good. Once you get the rotor off, you can follow my chisel advice above. When re-assembling, make sure you get the bearing pre-load correct.

rotor
I bought a chilton's, and except for the diagrams, it was no help. I managed to get it all off except for the second lock nut, but the local store couldn't supply me with that socket. So, my quest will have to resume tomorrow when I can find all the proper tools I need.
My truck is a 94' f-150 4x4 5.8 xlt.
There are two locking nuts holding the rotor on, other than that, your sequence is correct. Thank you for all of your help
