According to everything I can find (epa's sight wouldn't download for me) a quad cab 4x4 slt gets (listed as) 13/17 so I don't know what those came from. Anything heavier than that (3/4, 1 ton) don't get mileage estimates correct? Oh, and who listens to the EPA? there test are far from accurate either way.

I realize we are talking about a bigger truck here, but those are still hideous numbers for an engine. Would I ever want something like that in my Ranger? No way.
That is a little over 1/2 of my Ranger(4.0) will do. Sounds more like my F250, no my F250 is not that bad!

Oh, I figured out the problem. It's MSNBC-not really known for quality/accurate reporting. I could list many more examples but this isn't the place for that.

ktmguy70, based on sales figures alone from the last 15 years, I'd say that there would be plenty more Rangers left on the road than Dakotas or S-10s. They started out with a whole lot more of them, so there would have to be some seriously bad quality issues with them for there to be more of anything else on the road.

I've never seen ANY Dodge V8 get 19 miles per gallon...even on the Interstate. I think that guy must have had the engine off in neutral. A Dodge 5.2 Dakota typically will turn 13 miles per gallon average. The new 4.7 was Dodge's first all new V8 in 40 years or so and it's a bit better on fuel...but still you're looking at 14 miles per gallon average if you're lucky. That's not even going to come close to the 17.5 mpg average my Ranger 4x4 is turning...and I can go places a Dakota can't go and tow anything a Dakota can tow. I'm not seeing what's so hard to understand about this....

My son has a '95 Ranger 2.3L which has 182,000 miles on it. Still runs as strong as new. Still goes 5000 miles between oil changes with out adding any. I say the Ranger is as tough as any small truck Build.

While I agree, with that assupmtion, That doesnt mean the overall PERCENTAGE of Rangers on the road have more High mileage vehicles in the equation than Gm or Dodge.

Hey kmtguy I would have to disagree with you there. Too many high mileage rangers around my area compared to S-10s and dakotas. These rangers never give up. They just go and go and go. Why buy anything else?

So does this mean you go around checking odometers thru windows, or what? Do you really know or is this just an assumption? Facts mean little to those who have made up their minds.( this goes either way)

Are the Rangers just in worse shape in general? Maybe they just look like they have more miles .

Well as I am Generally A ford person, I still have to say that I just dont see that many Rangers here compared to Dakotas, and as Far as small Trucks Go, I see Way More toyotas than any of the three you mentioned..
Of the Rangers I DO personally know people with, none of them have Very High mileage, not to say they WONT get there.. But in comparison of 2-s10s In My ex's Family with over 220,000 miles on them. So PERSONALLY im not gonna vouch that Ranger Holds anything over the Competition as far as Reliability goes, remember its all personal experience.

Tdister I know for a fact about those high mileage rangers. I do know these people. Sorry kmtguy you know how I am Fords got to be on top. Hey those S-10s are good but I still think rangers are better. Ooops there I go again. If you look on the thread about high mileage rangers lot of 200,000 +. I know personally of one over 500,000 miles.

I agree with you, one day at the auction I seen a couple of older clean looking Rangers. One had about 425,000 miles(was on propane!) and the other had about 375,000 miles. Could not believe that there was that much on these two, must have been well taken care of. Here the Rangers dominate the small truck market, some imports, S10`s and not that many Dodge`s.

I never said outhaul. I knowit cant. I dont like towing more than 5k in my truck...it does not like hills byu that point.

As far as straight out racing.

My truck is BONE STOCK!!! it has TIRES!!! and they are 3% larger than stock and technically SLOW the truck down. No mods, nothing nada. You want timeslips? either Talley or True has it I believe, let me get to a track again to get some more. And yes I race my truck plenty.

my truck is rated a hair over 200hp and a little higher torque, dont know numbers, it has 3.55 tires and weighs in at 4268 lbs with me (142 lbs) with the under seat jack removed. It still had in the spare tire and tailgate. It had 1/4 tank of gas (roughly 6-7 gallons of gas)
