54 F-100 with a 93 351 Inspection

Ok, lets say I do install this EFI motor. Am I now going to be held to 93 inspection standards for my truck or do I get a pass based on a vintage vehicle? Ed

The laws might vary from state to state, but I dont have to smog my truck. Im running a 1978 302.

Dont ask, dont tell?
When I registered it, nobody ever asked me if it was the original motor.

I think youll be ok.

I have heard it different too but, I called the DMV here and they told me the correct answer. It may be different there but, phone calls are cheap.

Ed,

Depends on the local inspection laws, but I've never heard of a state that based inspection standards on the engine itself. It should be based on the year of the truck. I had a 96 engine in a 29 Ford here in NH and our state inspection was was based on the car...

As I recall, Calif. used to base your emission requirements on the vehicle year or the engine year, which ever was newer, but as I understand it , they now have the floating exemption. Any Calif types that can confirm that? I know here in Washington, vehicle 1979 and older are exempt from inspections. It is a floating exemption also. So 1980 may be exempt now. Not sure on that.
Each state is so radically different from each other, plus the laws change from year to year, the only safe approach is a phone call to your DMV to find our what is required this week
Good luck

In CA we do have a floating exemption. Vehicles 30 years and older are no longer smogged. Also, in CA the law is that the vehicle frame determines the year. Also, if it's a kit car you can get it registered as the year it represents. But Ed, I don't know about Texas. Good luck, John
