replacement tires for better mileage and ride

The tires on my 99' SD are worn out (got 40,000 out of them ). Want to buy replacements that will get me better milage (i have the V10) and have a smoother ride. I'm thinking Michelin XPS Rib. Any advice?

In my opinion, the xps ribs will certainly not help the ride. The xps rib has a steel belted sidewall, and if anything, may give a harsher ride. I ran those tires on a 14000# truck for some time, but unless you are carrying a very heavy load most of the time, the ride will be anything but pleasant. You might look into the Michelin LTX. These are available in both 8 or 10 ply rating I think, but have nylon belted sidewalls. My truck came with 10 ply Firebombs, but I have replaced them with 8 ply tires to improve the ride. The load capacity of the 8 ply is more than my truck is rated to carry, but the ride is far superior. Michelin tires are also notorious for superior ride quality.

Thanks for advice Would that be the M/S or the A/S LTS? The D or E load rating?

I have the Michelin LTX M/S tires on mine and like them. I have load range E as originally equipped. They ride quiet and have a good reputation. My local Discount Tire carried them and covers them with there available warranty. Got those "Firebombs" off there last year when NTSB advised Firestone to do an investigation of the Steeltex tires. Michelin also makes an all-terrain version of the LTX.

The LTX tires are $129 ea.(acording to the Discount tire website) How much should I expect to pay in total for mounting, balance, stems, disposal fees, sales tax, etc. etc... In other words, what's my final (out the door) cost going to be? Thanks?

Discount matched a price quote I had gotten at Costco of 115.00 each, so shop around, they will match competitors prices. So 5 tires mounted/bal/warranty/environmental fee/tax was $750.11 out the door.
If you decide to get the Michelins go to their website at http://michelin.tireselector.com/ and get the inflation recommendations for your truck off of the tire selector chart. (I printed the page and keep it in the glove box for future referrence)

My F-350 came with load range E (10 ply), but when I replaced them I went with load range D (8 ply). On my truck, the 8 ply tire is rated to almost 3000# each, and the ride is slightly better over the 10 ply. As far as the "AS" or "MS", I think that would depend upon the type of weather you most often encounter. Michelin makes the LTX in an AS, MS, or AT version. The only difference is in the tread. A dealer should be able to help you decide. I buy all of my tires from Discount because not only will they beat anyone's price, they offer a great road hazzard warranty that has saved me a bundle more than once.
