87 xlt lariat is starting off with a positive reputation.
3.8 in 88 ranger?

a friend of mine has a '88 ranger it has the 2.9. he also has a 3.8
out of a mustang or thunderbird. want's to swap the 2.9 for the 3.8 has anyone did this type of swap. any info much appreciated.
he thinks it will work i think it's more trouble than it's worth

I think you are right, it will be more work than it's worth. I've read elsewhere that the 3.8 uses the same tranny bolt pattern as the 5.0 & 5.8, so the current one won't work.

that's what i figured. since he want's to swap i think he should go with a 302
