headers

I want to get some aftermarket headers for my truck, 89 5.0. Does anyone know of any good ones that are reasonably priced? How big of a job is it to put them in?

i put hooker equal length headers on a 5 liter engine and they were really nice. they're expensive tho. hedman and flowtech make truck headers for around $100 i believe
as for putting them on u can get it done in an evening with a buddy helping. the old bolts might need penetrating oil to come out, careful not to break them. also they usually say "direct bolt on replacement" but u might have to move some things to get them in. the new headers might smoke for a few minutes, and should be re-tightened the next day after driving. thats my experience with them, they're definetely worth putting on

I like JBAs because they bolt right into where the stock manifolds bolt in...

they flow almost as good as long tubes....

The flange is 3/8" thick and it eliminates flange warping thus exhaust leaks...

www.proficientperformance.com has them with all the smog fittings...

consider the savings of a cheaper long tube header plus the exhaust mod labor along with the headache of constantly fixing leaks....

as compared to the small amount extra you'd have to pay for something that fits with no mods......and works just as well.

I'd say JBAs are worth it.....I have them and I am happy!!!!

I have found also with any headers the use of "Stage 8" header bolts to be beneficial. Thee bolts are made to resist backing out. I believed there are a few others making specialty header bolts now also. The bolts backing out is where alot of header leaks come from. They sell them through Summit and many others I imagine.
